"It's easy to focus entirely on your child and the process of sending her off to school -- allowing everything you know about the school to filter from her. However, the communication is so much richer when you stay involved in ISU life. The Homecoming Parade (and winning for best float one year!) and Family Weekend were much more exciting for me because I was a part of it -- not just seeing things through my daughter's perspective. The Board meetings have been fun events, and in addition to an opportunity to interact with other parents, they provide a chance to have coffee with my daughter every couple of months!"

The Family Weekend Committee is responsible for planning and executing each event the PAB participates in at Family Weekend, including the Parents Welcome Reception, Family Weekend t-shirt distribution, and the Saturday evening event, which has been a Dueling Pianos act for the past several years. Planning begins early in the summer and continues throughout October.

The Fundraising Committee works to coordinate new and innovative methods of fundraising to support PAB grants and scholarships. For example, this committee is very involved with such efforts as planning a Dueling Pianos event during Family Weekend.

The Grants Committee, chaired by the PAB treasurer, determines recipients of the Parents Association Board and Obalil Grants. Grant applications are reviewed during the fall semester. Awarded grants are to be used by the end of the spring semester. All grant recipients are required to attend the Spring PAB meeting to provide a brief presentation of their project/program funded by the award.

The Homecoming Committee is responsible for creating and assembling the Parents Association Board Homecoming Float. Additionally, this committee is responsible for planning and executing any additional events the PAB participates in during Homecoming (i.e. having a table at the football game tailgate).

Members of this committee work to recruit new members to the Parents Association Board as well as committee volunteers. In addition, the Membership Committee supports the existing membership and organizes the Parents Association and Board workforce at various PAB functions.

The Preview Orientation Committee assists the University liaisons with coordinating the events during Preview, the summer orientation program for prospective students and parents.

The Scholarship Committee determines recipients of PAB and Ruth Goodwin Scholarships. Scholarship applications are reviewed during the spring semester and awarded for the fall term.

The Sibling Weekend Committee is responsible for planning and executing an event for the spring semester. Planning will begin in the middle of the fall semester.
